A friend of mine sent me this video today. The woman in the video exemplifies the kind of people who live off those of us who work.
To add to the stories she has told, I know of people that buy cigarettes and other non-food items with Food Stamps, which, of course, is ILLEGAL! So, for those of us who are paying for this, at 1 pack of cigarettes per day ($7.00/pack) the taxpayers are funding this fraud at the rate of $2,555/per smoking person, annually. Multiply that by (say) only 20,000 Food Stamp Card Recipients and that rounds out to a cool $51 million dollars annually, JUST FOR THE CIGARETTES!!!! And certainly not including the resultant medical costs.
That's right, those of us who work our asses off are paying for these parasites to smoke; a habit that causes cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and numerous other diseases that will eventually ring up exorbitantly high health-care costs, (likely to cost $100's of millions, if not more) which we, the taxpayers, will also be obligated to pay for.
And then, people like this woman, exploit and abuse the system in other creative, yet dubious ways that are unimaginable to the working class.
This is just another travesty in the wide-ranging world of welfare fraud. Makes me sick. How about you?

The Medical Livery Business in the State of Connecticut: Fraudulent Practices
We believe that several of the Medical Livery companies in CT are employing a host of fraudulent and deceptive business practices that are costing the state dearly. For example, a function of the livery company is to drive methadone patients who live in various parts of CT, to methadone clinics (Drug Addiction Programs) in cities and towns such as New Haven, Bridgeport, Stratford, Waterbury, and so forth. State-funded health insurance programs pay for their round-trip transportation. Moreover, the people (CT taxpayers) are being ripped off.
Example 1: On a daily (or very frequent) basis, many clients (state-assistance recipients) are driven by Livery cars from Waterbury to New Haven. The livery-car fee for that trip is approximately $45, or $90 round trip. Thus, the state of CT is paying the Livery company approximately $540/week to transport one individual (6 days/week) from Waterbury to New Haven and back. That amounts to approximately $28,000 per year, per methadone client.
Each livery company transports many methadone patients daily. Several Livery Companies pack methadone clients into one Livery car and charge full-fare for each one. For some livery companies, it is common practice to fit as many clients into a Livery car as is possible, and then charge full-fare for each one; when we believe the CT State policy and law is that only one(1) full fare can be charged, while the others should be add-on rides, and thus be discounted substantially. This means that if there are four passengers, only 1 should be charged full-fare. The others should be charged $6, as an add-on fee. For each individual, this amounts to $36/week for six days, as opposed to $540/week paying full price.
These illegal and unethical pricing practices account for a very significant difference in what the Livery company charges the state of CT. For example, if all 4 passengers were charged $28,000/year in transportation fees, the total fees would be $112,000 annually, versus the (approximately) $33,000 in total that should be charged. That is a difference of $79,000/annually: And that's just for 3 people!!! There are hundreds of people being transported daily. Incidentally, we do not believe that all livery companies practice these deceptive pricing practices. But some definitely do, and we believe these fraudulent business practices exploit (steal from) CT taxpayers daily!
Additionally, we believe that the Transportation Coordinators, including Logisticare and Connecticut Transportation Services (CTS) benefit in these scenarios as well. We do not have an estimate of the fees these firms charge the state but we do know that because of the way the rides are reported from the Livery Companies to the "transportation coordinators," that the Transportation Coordinators are ripping the state of CT off at an equally dishonest rate, and in an equally fraudulent fashion. We believe the "transportation coordinators," and the livery companies are in "kahoots," working together to maximize their revenues, while exploiting the treasury of the state of CT.
Given that there are scores of "clients" being transported from various towns/cities in CT to the clinics mentioned above, it is estimated that the state is being over-charged several million dollars annually, and that these fraudulent practices should be more closely monitored. And, moreover, that the perpetrators receive the maximum fines and penalties possible.
